Sugarbook founder Chan Eu Boon has been charged in court today (24 Feb) for public mischief over the controversial ‘Top 10 Sugar Baby Universiti in Malaysia’ list.

Malay Mail reports that the 34-year-old founder was charged with publishing statements conducive to public mischief under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code.

He was accused of commiting the offence in a post uploaded to the TechNave news portal on 10th February.

The charge sheet accuses Chan of publishing the ‘Top 10 Sugar Baby Universiti in Malaysia’ post with the intention to incite fear and public anxiety in the public, while abetting others to commit a criminal offence against public order.

If found guilty, he is liable to maximum 2 years jail time, or a fine, or both.

Last week, Sugarbook’s founder was detained for police investigations under 4 different laws:

  • Section 505 of the Penal Code (Statements conducing to public mischief)
  • Section 372(1)(d) of the Penal Code (Exploiting any person for purposes of prostitution)
  • Section 372B of the Penal Code (Soliciting for purposes of prostitution)
  • Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Improper use of network facilities or network service, etc)
