The government will roll-out the National Covid-19 Immunization Programme start at the end of this month, said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said that they are are targeting 80% of the country’s population or 26.5 million individuals and added that it will be given out for free to Malaysians.

Three-phase roll out

The vaccination programme will be done in three phases:

The first first phase

Involves 500,000 individuals consisting frontline of health workers and non-health workers starting end of this month.

The second phase

For high-risk groups such as the elderly and the vulnerable who are 60 years of age or older, and have co-morbidity problems like heart disease, obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure. People with disabilities (OKU) are also included in this phase.

As much 9.4 million people are expected to receive the vaccine under this second phase, which will take place from April to August 2021.

The third phase

Adults 18 years of age and older, which will run from May 2021 to February 2022.

KJ to coordinate vaccination programme

Muhyiddin said that over 600 vaccination centres will be open nationwide by utilising
public and private health facilities, stadiums, convention centers as well as universities.

He also said that the Cabinet has agreed to appoint Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin to coordinate the immunization program.

The Minister will lead a Special Task Force that manages the implementation of the program in terms of logistics and coordination with states and government agencies.
