Rumours and theories are in abundance as to why the Yang di-Pertuan Agong called for a series of high-level meetings with major political leaders today at the Istana Negara.

It was reported that Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah had granted audiences to discuss the current political landscape in the light of a possible new political landscape and the ongoing Emergency Proclamation that is due to expire in August.

Here is what we know about the situation so far:

  • This morning (9 June), at between 7:49am and 8:55am, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, had a meeting with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
  • PKR president, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has also received an invitation for an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agung. His meeting is scheduled for this morning (9 June).
  • DAP Secretary General Lim Guan Eng is set to meet with the Yang di-Pertuan Agung at the Intana Negara later today. The meeting is expected to be in the afternoon.
  • Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) confirmed that that it’s pro-term chairman, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will have an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Thursday.
  • PAS party president, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has also received an invitation for an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan confirmed the matter but could not confirm when the meeting would take place.
