The number of COVID-19 brought-in-dead (BID) cases increased sevenfold from April to June this year, said Health general-director Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The cases of BID increased from 35 to 246 in three months. Most of them were in the 50 to 70 age group (76%), and more than half of them (64.5%) had at least one comorbidity.

Dr Noor Hisham noted that since the pandemic started last year, the country has recorded 5,327 Covid-19 deaths (as of 2 July). 4,856 of those deaths happened this year.  

In total, there have been 670 BID (13.8%) cases in 2021.

The states with the highest BID cases this year are Selangor (181), Kuala Lumpur (78) and Sabah (85).

Be more alert

Dr Noor Hisham urged Malaysians to monitor their own health diligently, especially after being confirmed positive and put under home observation.

He advises those who have symptoms or were in close contact with a positive case to get checked and self-quarantine at home responsibly. 

They also need to notify the Ministry of Health via the MySejahtera app self-notification feature and the nearest district health office or the Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC) if they tested positive.

If symptoms worsen, get treatment at a nearby health facility. 

“Family members or housemates are advised to be aware of the condition and health of the COVID-19 patient by using communication technology to monitor the patient’s health throughout the quarantine period at home,” added Dr Noor Hisham.
