The #BenderaPutih white flag movement, aimed to provide essential food aid to those who need it the most, has taken the country by storm.

Restaurants, shops, charities, and even politicians have jumped at the opportunity to set up unofficial food banks, food pantries, free packaged meals, and more. Regular citizens have shown their generosity by restocking such pantries as well.

Yet as more places offer their aid, it becomes a lot harder for people to keep track of the community help and where to find it, which is why some have stepped up to plot aid on interactive maps.

Bendera Putih App

Despite the name, the Bendera Putih App is not an app, but is instead an interactive map you can open on your browser. All you will need to do is log in with your Google account to access the map.

The map layout is simple, clean, and intuitive.

On the map, you can raise a white flagto ask for help or report a flag if you see one in your vicinity. You can also find and add food banks in the area.

The simple map consolidates all this information into one place and makes use of community reporting to stay updated.

Kita Jaga Kita

The people behind the #KitaJagaKita movement when the MCO was first announced have consistently kept the community movement alive.

They, too, have released a Google Maps list of known food banks on their website HERE.

However, this list only includes food banks and does not track individuals who have put up white flags for aid.

Those who need help can try to find the closest food bank to them, or request aid directly through their website.

How You Can Help

These are only a few of the community-led aid provided by Malaysians, for Malaysians. Companies are also doing their part to help the country.

Lotus’s Malaysia

The hypermarket chain has Charity Food Bins in 10 different Lotus’s stores in the country set up since 2016, namely Lotus’s Kepong, Cheras, Shah Alam, Station 18, Penang Sungai Dua, Alor Setar, Kota Bharu, Seremban Jaya, Melaka Sentral, and Seri Alam.

You can easily top up their donation boxes with groceries.

Shoppers can donate groceries and other essentials via these bins, which will be funneled to various charities, which can be seen on their website HERE.

Gamuda Land

The GL Cares Donation Drive is accepting cash donations that will be channeled to three different areas: a Gamuda Land Food Bank, schools, or charity homes.
