The government will work out the risk assessment and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the reopening of umrah travel by mid-February.
Based on reports from Bernama, the Tourism Ministry and Health Ministry has discussed with stakeholders to get their feedback on the industry after the temporary travel ban was imposed.
They said that both Ministries will finalise the improvement proposals based on suggestions and the issues raised before presenting them during the next Covid-19 Quartet Ministers’ Meeting.
They’ve discussed issues raised by those involved in the umrah travel industry including the SOPs, refund, and flight rescheduling issues, insurance coverage, umrah travel reopening timeline, and recovery assistance for the industry.
The Health Ministry imposed a ban on travel to Saudi Arabia for umrah after a surge of Covid-19 cases were reported.
Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin mentioned previously that the ban will be for a month starting from 8 January.
