Police have detained a 15-year-old girl in Kemaman, Terengganu after her newborn baby boy was found dead with injuries to his chest.

The girl gave birth to the baby boy with assistance from a friend at a home in Felcra Seri Bandi, Cukai in the morning.

While the friend rushed to inform a nearby clinic about the delivery, the teen mother and her baby were left at home. The girl’s mother was away at work in Cukai at the time.

When the clinic personnel arrived, they saw that the baby was bleeding from stab wounds to the left side of his chest.

They rushed the baby to the clinic that was less than 100 metres from the house for medical aid.

The police received a report about the incident around 10 am and rushed to the scene.

According to New Straits Times, the healthcare staff confirmed that the baby was dead. The body was taken to Kemaman Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the mother was a rape victim. Malay Mail reported that there were several sharp objects with traces of blood in the girl’s home too.

Kemaman district police chief, Superintendent Hanyan Ramlan, said the girl was no longer at school and stayed with her mother after her father died.

Since she was the only person in the house with the baby during the incident, the police have detained her to assist in investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

The police have also identified the man who allegedly raped the teenage girl and he’s being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.
