Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin said the ministry will set up a bully complaints portal by next week to improve anti-bullying efforts in schools.

According to The Star, Radzi said this when asked to comment on the bullying incident at Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) in Kuantan, which is still unsolved since June 2022.

The anti-bullying reporting portal allows parents and teachers another venue to lodge reports of bullying other than through the phone and email.

The portal also helps to protect the informer’s confidentiality and deal with emergencies better.

Without commenting directly on the issue in Kuantan, Radzi reiterated that his ministry is committed to reducing bullying incidents in schools through several holistic measures.

The holistic measures include establishing special committees to study existing guidelines and procedures related to bullying in school.

The programme “Sekolahku Sejahtera, Sepakat dan Selamat” will also be launched in partnership with the police and the Home Ministry to create a safe school environment.

The concept currently practised emphasises elements of students’ character so they can make rational decisions and instil empathy in themselves to avoid bullying others.

We can monitor as much as we want but if their minds and thinking are clouded, their actions will lead to bullying.
