Taiwan police said on Thursday (13 October) a Malaysian student surnamed Cai was found dead in her apartment in Taipei.
The Star reported that the 24-year-old woman is believed to be strangled as there were signs of strangulation.
According to Focus Taiwan, the matter was only known when her boyfriend, surnamed Chen, overdosed on over-the-counter medication around 5pm on Thursday.
He confessed to paramedics that he strangled a woman on Dadong Road in Taipei City’s Shilin district before passing out.
The police found the victim’s body in the apartment and an investigation is underway. Chen, who was hospitalised at the intensive care unit, regained consciousness.
Family has flown to Taiwan for the funeral arrangement
The family of the victim has flown to the country to arrange her funeral and requested privacy.
The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (Teco) press and media division director Benjamin Hong Zheng-bin said they have made arrangements to assist the victim’s family upon their arrival in Taiwan.
The family could immediately handle the funeral arrangements because Malaysians do not need to apply for a visa nor observe quarantine upon arrival.
According to Sin Chew Daily, the victim hails from Serdang, Selangor, and had travelled to Taiwan to study at Ming Chuan University. She also worked as a model and live streamer.
