SPM exams started on 30 January 2023 and will end on 15 March 2023. While it’s usually a few busy weeks for teachers and students, some schools have attracted more “attention” during this time.

The latest drama in school was a video of a male student complaining about the SPM History paper.
It seemed like he was angry because what he studied didn’t come out in the exams. Instead, students were asked about Singapore in one of the questions.
While ranting, the student swore and even held up a middle finger. Another student could be seen pushing the angry student away near the end of the video, perhaps to shut him up.
According to Hulu Selangor police chief Suffian Abdullah, the police have arrested two 18-year-old boys after a 53-year-old teacher lodged a police report.
The police say the student used profanity against the people who set the exam questions and insulted Singapore in the video.
During the raid of the home, the police confiscated an iPhone 11.
Based on the police statement, the case is investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for any sort of insulting behaviour via insulting or indecent words, language, or gestures.
Netizen’s reactions to the students’ arrests were mixed. While they agreed that what the student did was wrong, they also believe it didn’t warrant an arrest.
Those who disagreed with the arrest asked for the boys’ immediate release and said voicing dissatisfaction against SPM papers isn’t a crime.
Some believe the police should arrest people who spew racist sentiments and lies that will disrupt harmony.
Asking for the student’s release doesn’t mean netizens condone the behaviour. They believe there’s a better way to discipline them than having a police record.
@saifnasution Saudara, this police nonsense must stop. Sure, anyone has the right to lodge a report, but not every report requires this kind of police response. Release these children immediately from further state action. Since when hating on exams is a crime in Malaysia?

He committed no crime. Teenage boys do use vulgar words (part of hormone to show male hood) to protest but by no mean, they are wrongdoers nor criminals.
When I was in school many, many moons ago, there is always a bunch of us who would let off the frustration on the difficulties in the exam papers. None of our teachers got angry & made any police reports. Instead motivated us to focus & do better in the next papers.
