Do you know which state in Malaysia sells the most expensive dish and mixed rice?
Not Kuala Lumpur or Selangor, but Pahang’s Lipis, Johor’s Kota Tinggi and Sarawak’s Asajaya.
According to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) data, the price for one portion of vegetable, chicken and white rice in the areas above is RM10.
Rice, chicken and vegetables are priced at RM8.24 per plate in Kuala Lumpur and RM7.80 in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
According to the latest data released by DOSM as of 31 December 2022, the lowest price is in Kelantan’s Gua Musang, Pahang’s Lojing and Terengganu’s Setiu, which only cost RM5.
In addition, according to the website’s data, the price of roti canai and teh tarik in Sarawak is the highest in the country.

The most expensive roti canai is in Sarawak, which is RM2.
Districts like Matu, Tatau, Song and Lawas, and also in Sabah, namely Tambunan, Kota Marudu and Pitas, have among the most pricey roti canai at RM2 per piece.
The most expensive roti canai in the Peninsula are priced at RM1.80 in Pahang’s Jerantut and Putrajaya.
The cheapest roti canai is priced at RM1 in Pahang’s Rompin and Terengganu’s Dungun.

As for teh tarik, the most expensive sip is in Sarawak’s Beluru and Pakan, priced at RM3.50.
The most expensive teh tarik in West Malaysia is in Selangor’s Klang, priced at RM2.30, while the cheapest is in Kedah’s Kuala Muda at RM1.20.
Recently, the government introduced a “Menu Rahmah” at participating restaurants nationwide with vegetables and meat priced at only RM5 to help low-income groups.
Many are sceptical that the Menu Rahmah can sustain due to its low price.
However, some said the price is only for basic dishes and the restaurants can recoup when customers order additional food.

"Menu Rahmah" is a vol. strategy and a promotional tool offered by the Gov.
Restaurants only need to offer a basic dish to qualify for this and receive the accompanying publicity.
