To celebrate Hari Raya 2023, a group gathered at the SP Uptown market in Sg Petani to set off fireworks.
They intended to add to the lively atmosphere of the festival, but some made a mistake in setting off the fireworks, causing them to burst into fireballs and fly horizontally.
The scene got out of control and almost caused an accident.
According to the video circulated on social media, the accident happened at one of the entrances of SP Uptown, next to a famous nasi lemak stall.
The scene of the accident was also crowded with people.
Pandemonium
When the fireworks ignited, a box was shot up to nearly 4 storeys high and fell to the ground.
Sparks were scattered everywhere, and the scene was very dangerous.
Dozens of motorcycles were parked around the scene, and some people were sitting on the motorcycles.
The sudden situation made them retreat in a hurry and cover their faces with their hands to avoid injury.
Many netizens criticized that fireworks should not be set off in crowded places as it may cause fire, especially when many motorcycles are parked nearby.
It is reported that after the incident, the local police immediately prohibited people from setting off fireworks.

The Home Ministry (KDN) recently said it allowing as many as 45 types of fireworks and firecrackers to be imported, stored and sold only during the festive season.
It is among the six guidelines set by the KDN, with the monitoring to be carried out by the police and the local authorities.
However, online sales of fireworks and firecrackers are prohibited.
Despite the online restrictions, the decision has been criticised by some as endangering the public.
Critics pointed out many instances of irresponsible and dangerous use of fireworks and firecrackers, leading to injuries and rising tensions.
