Mother’s Day can be a tough time for many people who have lost their mothers. While the celebration has been largely criticized for being a commercial gimmick, it’s a special day for some people to honour their late mother.
Recently, a Twitter user Acapbadh (@acapbad) said a random man wearing Baju Melayu was handing out free flowers to strangers at IPC Mutiara Damansara.
His wife received an orange flower and it was accompanied by a note. The couple only realized the weight of the flower’s significance until they read the lovely note.
The flower was a Mother’s Day homage to someone’s mother who passed due to cancer.
The note read. “Happy Mother’s Day. All the memories come back but she never does. In loving memory of Norehan. Gone too soon. #CancerSucks #CancerSucksMY #RememberingNorehan”
Acapbadh said it hits close to the heart because his wife also lost her father to cancer in September last year.
It hit personally because my wife just lost her dear father last September due to cancer too.

May Allah grant jannah and blessings to all mothers and fathers out there. #cancersucks #cancersucksmy
Who is Norehan?
The ‘Remembering Norehan’ initiative was started by a Twitter user known as Leah (@leah_ross), who responded to Acapbadh’s tweet to explain.
Leah hoped that the flowers brightened up the couple’s day and she didn’t mean to make anyone sad.
She said it’s an initiative she holds annually with her friends since losing her mother.
When her mother was still around, she would surprise her mother with flowers and even send flowers to her mother’s office.
Now that her mother is no longer around, she thought it would be nice to carry on the tradition and honour other mothers.
Leah also uploaded a video which showed her personally handwriting the notes.
Masa arwah mak ada, every bday/mothers day i will surprise her with flower n send it to her office.

The Twitter post prompted others to share their experiences of losing their mothers to cancer. They found the simple initiative truly meaningful.
Other netizens offered prayers to Leah’s late mother, Norehan, and wished the family all the best.
A netizen said what made it quite heartbreaking was that Leah handwrote the notes one by one, judging by the slight handwriting variations and different hashtag positions.
The post also reminds everyone to cherish and appreciate their time with their mothers.
This initiative is so meaningful. I lost my mom to cancer in 2008. I can relate to this. #cancersucks #cancersucksmy #rememberingnorehan
