RJ Nagarajan became the second Malaysian to climb all seven highest peaks on seven continents of the world after conquering his seventh peak at Mount Everest on Monday, 22 May.

According to ZeroTo8000 founder Mohd Khafiz Bachok, the challenge to complete all seven peaks known as World 7 Summit is one of the highest achievements in the world of mountain climbing.

RJ Nagarajan, more affectionately known as RJ or Rajan, managed to capture the summit of Mount Everest at 10.30am local time (12.45pm Malaysia time) at a height of 8,850 metres above sea level. Mount Everest is the highest peak in the Asian continent and the world.

RJ, who’s also a climber from the ZeroTo8000 team, said his climb is to convey the message of Malaysia’s spirit of self-reliance in pursuing dreams and creating success.

He said every Malaysian should strive to be independent in creating success in various fields.

Previously, RJ has successfully climbed:

  • Mount Aconcagua in Argentina at a height of 6,961 metres which is the highest peak in the South American continent
  • Mount Denali in the United States (6,194 m), the highest peak in North America
  • Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania (5,895 m), the highest in Africa
  • Mount Elbrus in Russia (5,642 m), the highest peak on the European continent
  • Mount Vinson (4,892 m), the highest in Antarctica
  • Mount Kosciuszko in Australia (2,228 m), the highest on the Australian continent.

In addition, RJ has also completed two more mountains, namely Mont Blanc in France at a height of 4,810m and Puncak Jaya in Irian Jaya, Indonesia (4,884m), which by certain definitions are Europe and the Australian continent’s tallest mountains.

RJ took seven years since 2016 to complete the Seven Summits climbing challenge.

The other Malaysian climbers who completed Seven Summits

According to Mohd Khafiz, the first Malaysian to complete the Reinhold Messner (Carsten Pyramid) version of the Seven Summits was Datuk Muhamad Muqharabbin Mokhtarrudin or Qobin.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Reduan Rozali and Fakri Abdul Samah successfully climbed the seven peaks on the seven continents in the version of Richard Bass (Kosciuszko), which lists Mount Kosciuszko rather than the Indonesian peak.
