A woman in her 50s bought a drug for knee joint pain from Malaysia through a friend.
After taking it for seven months, she developed severe side effects such as adrenal insufficiency and was admitted to the hospital.
Following the incident, the Singapore Health Sciences Authority (HSA) recently announced two products containing potent steroid ingredients.
According to HSA, the products will cause severe adverse effects on consumers.
These two products are D’SIHAT HERBA GOUT & SENDI” and “Yanwo Chongcao Yanyin Qinfei Huatan Dan”.

HSA pointed out that the woman suffered from Cushing’s syndrome after long-term use of the products.
She was also diagnosed with adrenal insufficiency after stopping the product.
Another consumer in her 40s had abnormal cortisol levels in her blood after taking Yanwo Chongcao Yanyin Qinfei Huatan Dan for two months.
Both had obtained the products from Malaysia through their friends, and HSA has since alerted the Malaysian authorities.
Readily Available For Purchase
The investigation revealed that the products are sold on local e-commerce platforms and social media.
The authorities have cooperated with the person in charge of the platforms to remove the relevant products.
Sellers and suppliers have been warned to stop selling these two products immediately, and violators could be fined or imprisoned, or both if convicted.

HSA reminds the public to be cautious when purchasing products online or overseas.
They should purchase from reputable pharmacies and retail stores or official websites with local physical retail businesses.
Consumers should also be wary of product claims that claim to be natural, herbal, steroid-free and provide quick relief from chronic ailments.
The reason is that it may contain ingredients that could harm health.
