Fireworks used to be welcomed at big celebrations and festivals. However, it has lately been viewed as a nuisance due to irresponsible use by some people and it caused injuries to others.
A recent video posted on Inforoadblock’s Facebook page demonstrated one of the ways fireworks were used irresponsibly.
The video showed a man lighting fireworks on the busy road of MRR2 highway in front of Petronas Tesco Ampang.
The fireworks kept going off while all vehicles on the road continued moving.

Netizens thought the man’s action was foolish and irresponsible. They hoped the man would be arrested and jailed for endangering road users.
Netizens also think the man’s irresponsible actions could reverse the government’s decision to legalise and regulate the sale of fireworks.
A few netizens said the fault lies on the user and not the fireworks. They added that others have played with fireworks responsibly and hurt no one.
Some also pinned the blame on the legalisation of fireworks and firecrackers.
On 3 February 2023, Malay Mail reported that Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming said the legalisation will help improve safety and increase the country’s revenue.
All imported firecrackers and fireworks would also require the approval and verification of the relevant authorities, which then hopefully makes the items safer to use.
In the past, there were incidents of injuries related to the setting off of firecrackers and fireworks. And this is due to the reason that some products do not meet the requirements and standards.
